Among the 8,521 institutional investors that filed a 13F in both Q1 2026 and Q2 2026, Intel picked up the most net new positions of any US-listed stock: 1,066 managers opened a new position while only 114 closed one, for a net gain of 952 holders. Nine of the other fourteen names on this list are semiconductor, memory or chip-equipment stocks.
The top 15 stocks by net new institutional positions
"Net new" is new positions opened in Q2 2026 minus positions fully closed, counted only among the 8,521 managers on record for both quarters. It is a count of managers, not dollars, and it excludes options entirely.

A chip-heavy list
Of the 15 names above, ten sit somewhere in the semiconductor supply chain: logic and CPU makers (INTC, AMD, TXN), memory and storage (MU, SNDK, STX), networking silicon (MRVL), and the equipment makers that supply the whole chain (AMAT, LRCX, KLAC). Dell, a large buyer of the same components, would make it eleven chip-related names if you count hardware. The remaining names β Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, Corning and UnitedHealth β are the exceptions, not the pattern.
That concentration raises an obvious question for anyone tracking sector flows: is this broad-based conviction in the semiconductor cycle, or a handful of large managers rotating into the same handful of names at once? The sector heatmap and the crowding score are built to help separate those two stories β we won't guess at the answer here.
Who opened the largest new positions, by conviction
Position counts tell you how many managers moved. Conviction β the position as a share of that manager's own reported portfolio β tells you how much it mattered to them. Below are the highest-conviction new positions in the top five buy names.
| Stock | Manager | % of manager's portfolio |
|---|---|---|
| INTC | Valliance Asset Management Ltd | 18.7% |
| Oriental Harbor Investment Master Fund | 15.7% | |
| MU | Fund Resources Investment Holding Group Co Ltd | 76.7% |
| Shengqi Capital (Hong Kong) Ltd | 45.3% | |
| AMD | Sassicaia Capital Advisers LLC | 22.4% |
| Dragoneer Investment Group, LLC | 19.4% | |
| MRVL | Mizuho Markets Cayman LP | 21.3% |
| TB Alternative Assets Ltd. | 12.3% | |
| SNDK | Boundless Plain Holdings Ltd | 42.3% |
| Ariose Capital Management Ltd | 22.1% |
The size of these conviction bets varies enormously β from Fund Resources Investment Holding Group Co Ltd putting 76.7% of its reported portfolio into Micron, down to single-digit allocations from larger, more diversified managers on other names. These figures include small managers alongside large ones; a high percentage reflects how big the position is relative to that manager's own book, not a signal that the stock is a good buy.
Notable repeat names
Ariose Capital Management Ltd shows up among the top new-position holders in both MRVL and SNDK. 3G Capital Partners LP appears among the largest new positions in both INTC and DELL, and again in TXN. What this data does and doesn't show
13F filings are due up to 45 days after quarter end, so this is a snapshot of positions as of the end of Q2 2026, filed by mid-August. The filings cover US long equity positions only β no short positions, no cash, no bonds, and options are excluded from these counts entirely. A stock showing up here means more managers reported owning it; it says nothing about price, timing, or why a manager bought. Readers who want to know which of these managers have historically been worth following can check fund rankings by alpha and Sharpe β the 45-day filing lag means this list arrives after the fact, which is exactly the gap that backtesting the managers, rather than reacting to a single quarter's filing, is meant to address.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which stock had the most net new institutional positions in Q2 2026?
Intel (INTC), with 1,066 new positions against 114 closed, for a net of 952 among managers that filed both Q1 and Q2 2026.
Why are so many chip stocks on this list?
Ten of the fifteen most-bought stocks by net new positions in Q2 2026 are semiconductor, memory or chip-equipment names: INTC, MU, AMD, MRVL, SNDK, AMAT, STX, LRCX, KLAC and TXN. The data shows the concentration; it does not tell us the reason behind it.
Does "net new positions" mean dollar inflows?
No. It is a count of the number of managers who opened or closed a position, not the size of those positions in dollars. A stock can have many new small holders and still see less capital flow than a stock with fewer but larger new positions.
Are options included in these counts?
No. 13F filings can include options, but this dataset excludes puts and calls, counting only long equity positions.
What does "conviction" mean in the fund tables?
Conviction is the position's size as a percentage of that specific manager's own reported 13F portfolio. It ranges from small allocations by large, diversified managers to a majority of the book for smaller, concentrated managers, and is not an endorsement of the stock.
Methodology: Counts include every 13F filer (hedge funds, asset managers, banks, advisers). New/closed positions compare only managers that filed both Q1 and Q2 2026. Options (puts/calls) excluded. Conviction is the position as % of the manager's own reported portfolio. Stocks whose CUSIP changed this quarter (spin-offs, re-domiciles) are excluded from buy/sell rankings.
